“Hollywood” in Essen: That was the Red Dot Gala 2016.
In spring, a 41-strong jury had awarded the coveted Red Dot label for good design to the most outstanding products of the year. Moreover, on 4 July, everyone who matters in international design came to Essen, Germany, to honour the winners. The Red Dot Gala took place in the Aalto-Theater, where The Red Dot: Best of the Best winners were ceremoniously presented with their trophies. Everyone was there: top international designers and high-ranking company representatives.
Among the winners presented on stage were Flavio Manzoni, the chief designer at Ferrari, Sean Carney, the Chief Designer at Philips and the Blackmagic Industrial Design team, led by Simon Kidd. The event was followed by a grand dinner and the vernissage of the Red Dot Museum where the evening turned into a dancing party in the midst of award-winning innovations.
It was on that day that János Héder was presented his Red Dot Award for his lighting creation: Ray. Tessellating wall scone, giving an impossibly stylish illusion on any wall - instant depth and unrivalled beauty. Best showing its ingenious design in composition, it instantly catches the eye, enabling interior designers to install unique arrangements into any space. Ray was exposed in the Red Dot Museum in Essen for an entire year.
